SpinPoi Instructor

Join the SpinPoi community of certified instructors. Through our PAC (Poi in Aged Care) certifications, you will receive thorough training in how to confidently lead fun, safe, and engaging poi sessions for older adults. See details below for available levels of care.

Rest Home & Hospital
LEVEL 1 Certification

After completing this certification you will:

  • Have the knowledge, experience, and skills to be a confident poi facilitator for rest home and hospital level adults
  • Know how to lead basic warm up and cool down exercises
  • Have a thorough understanding of the two modes of movement and the 3 building blocks of poi, and be able to use these to create your own exercises, lesson plans, and poi routines
  • Understand best practices for conducting safe and engaging poi sessions for healthy older adults
  • Understand how to make Maori poi

Certification requirements:

  • Complete the PAC Rest Home & Hospital Introductory Course (3 hours)
  • Complete the PAC Rest Home & Hospital Facilitator Training Course (3 hours)
  • Complete 1 hour of supervised teaching
  • Pass the PAC Rest Home & Hospital Exam

HEALTHY OLDER ADULTS
LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATION

After completing this certification you will:

  • Have the knowledge, experience, and skills to be a confident poi facilitator for community dwelling/independently living healthy older adults
  • Know how to lead basic warm up and cool down exercises
  • Have a thorough understanding of the two modes of movement and the 3 building blocks of poi, and be able to use these to create your own exercises and lesson plans, lesson plans, and poi routines
  • Be able to perform and teach beginner to intermediate poi moves across five categories (figure 8, pendulum, flower, butterfly, and reel turns)
  • Understand best practices for conducting safe and engaging poi sessions for healthy older adults
  • Understand how to make practice sock poi

Certification requirements:

  • Complete the PAC Healthy Older Adults Introductory Course (5 hours)
  • Complete the PAC Healthy Older Adults Facilitator Training Course (10 hours)
  • Complete 4 hours of supervised teaching
  • Pass the PAC Healthy Older Adults Exam
